Live comfortably and happily…

Comfortable, caring and secure, at Abbey Lea we offer long-term personal-centred care for the over 65’s. We specialise in supporting those with dementia related illnesses and old age. Should they need any nursing care, we also have the support of the local team of District Nurses who will visit our residents upon referral from a GP. Two night care assistants are awake throughout the night, with a senior member of staff ‘on call’ in case of concerns or an emergency.

General Facilities

Abbey Lea is an impressive Georgian listed building set in large, mature gardens.  The home accommodates 23 residents in pleasantly decorated rooms and has two television lounges, one of which has the loop system fitted, and a separate light dining room.  You’ll find the original sweeping grand staircase in the entrance hall, as well as hand painted wall murals photo montages adorn the walls, showing trips of bowling, fancy dress and summer fairs enjoyed by all. Memory boards outside bedrooms help residents with their orientation. and we also have a lift to assist anyone who finds stairs tricky.

Smelling fresh and looking clean and tidy, the home is cleaned daily and we pride ourselves on maintaining the building and environment to a high standard. Laundry and housekeeping is included in our fees with the exception of dry cleaning.

Room Facilities

We have 19 single rooms, 6 of which are ensuite and 2 companion rooms. All rooms have washing facilities, TV ariel points and a staff call system. We welcome personal furniture and possessions, which enable our residents to feel completely at home, although we must ask that these comply with British fire standards.

Meals

Interesting and varied meals are provided by our cooks and catering staff. Choice is offered at each meal, snacks and drinks available throughout the day and night. Specialised diets are catered for.

We are happy to assist residents with eating and drinking and visitors are welcome to join residents for meals.

Garden

Our enclosed, landscaped mature gardens and courtyard provide an ideal space to enjoy time together in the fresh air. We encourage our residents to sit and relax outside when they can. Walkways suitable for wheel chairs and raised beds enable residents to grow their own flowers and vegetables.  We have lovely garden and patio areas and our residents are encouraged to join in with any outdoor activity if they wish. Visitors are able to use the gardens when visiting and refreshments can, of course, be taken outside.

Safety and Specialist Features

A pleasant temperature is maintained throughout the home provided by central heating with individual thermostat controls, along with the correct ventilation. To keep all residents safe, a full fire detection and alarm system is maintained, fully compliant with regulations. There is also good lighting throughout the home. Most of our bedrooms and one bathroom are fitted with ceiling track hoist equipment other types of lifting aids are in our two other bathrooms. This ensures that all residents individual needs are catered for and further equipment is provided by an Occupational Therapist and District Nurses.
